2026 - Research Intern, San Francisco

The Distributed Systems Research group at MongoDB is seeking a Research Intern to contribute to the advancement of our distributed systems' correctness, reliability, and efficiency. This team focuses on designing, verifying, and implementing novel distributed protocols, applying formal methods to identify and resolve concurrency issues. Interns will engage in a mix of design, implementation, and validation projects, depending on the specific assignment.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with team members to design and implement distributed protocols, utilizing formal methods to verify system correctness, and conducting validation experiments to ensure system reliability. Interns will also participate in team meetings, present findings, and contribute to the continuous improvement of MongoDB's distributed systems.

Candidates should be pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields; exceptional Bachelor's and Master's students will also be considered. A strong foundation in distributed systems and lightweight formal methods is essential. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; company sponsorship may be available for eligible candidates applying for certain roles.
