AI Research Engineer - AI Safety
As an AI Research Engineer specializing in AI Safety at Helsing, you will be instrumental in developing techniques to evaluate AI products, enhance decision-making through uncertainty quantification, and ensure robustness against adversarial attacks. Helsing is a defense AI company dedicated to protecting democracies by delivering AI-based capabilities that enable machines to perceive and assist human decision-making. You will join a team focused on AI Assurance, contributing to scalable evaluation methods and safety mechanisms across the company's AI products.
In this role, you will define operational domains and assess the reliability of in-house AI capabilities. Your responsibilities include developing and extending state-of-the-art methods in uncertainty quantification and calibration, understanding and interfacing with AI systems, and evaluating their robustness in real-world and adversarial scenarios. Collaboration with cross-functional teams on impactful projects will be a key aspect of your day-to-day work.
The ideal candidate holds a STEM MSc with a strong mathematical and statistical background. Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively reporting and presenting research findings internally and externally. A passion for staying current with AI research and the ability to reimplement or extend state-of-the-art deep learning approaches are highly valued. Solid software engineering skills, including writing clean and well-structured code in Python and/or languages like Rust, Java, or modern C++, along with experience deploying AI software to production with testing, quality assurance, and monitoring, are required.
