Helsing is seeking an AI Research Engineer specializing in Computer Vision to join our dynamic team. As a defense AI company, our mission is to protect democracies by achieving technological leadership, enabling open societies to make sovereign decisions and uphold ethical standards. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape AI capabilities in one of the most challenging sectors, where high generalization capabilities must be paired with hardware constraints and robustness against adversarial attacks.

In this position, you will develop computer vision models and pipelines that leverage and extend the latest state-of-the-art methods and architectures. Your responsibilities will include designing experiments and conducting benchmarks to evaluate and improve model performance in real-world scenarios. Additionally, you will apply and develop techniques to adapt these models to target hardware and constraints associated with downstream ML/AI tasks. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential to contribute to impactful projects.

The ideal candidate holds an MSc in computer science, machine learning, robotics, or a related field, with experience in conceptualizing, implementing, and thoroughly evaluating advanced AI-based systems. Excellent communication skills are required to report and present research findings clearly and efficiently both internally and externally. A passion for staying up-to-date with current research and reimplementing or extending state-of-the-art deep learning approaches is essential. Solid software engineering skills are necessary, including writing clean and well-structured code in Python and/or languages like Rust, Java, or modern C++, along with experience deploying AI software to production, including testing, QA, and monitoring.

We offer a competitive salary and stock options (ESOP), relocation support up to €2,500 with four weeks of temporary accommodation, a yearly learning allowance of €500/£450, health and wellness benefits including gym membership and mental health support, regular company events and monthly social allowances, enhanced parental leave, and family support options.

At Helsing, you'll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns. We operate in a domain with highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. Our work frequently takes us to the state of the art in technical innovation, offering unique engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world.
