The Area Health Information Specialist II at Datavant is responsible for processing all release of information (ROI) requests, specifically medical record requests, in a timely and efficient manner. This role ensures accuracy and provides customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The specialist must always safeguard and protect the patient's right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient's medical information and that all releases of information comply with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA regulations. This position requires traveling 75% or more of the time. It is an intermediate-level position requiring at least one year of related Health Information Management (HIM) experience. In addition to the foundational responsibilities, the Area Health Information Specialist II is responsible for training Health Information Specialist I staff and providing reports to the manager and/or the facility.

Key responsibilities include receiving and processing requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality and security with all privileged information, and maintaining working knowledge of company and facility software. The specialist must adhere to the company's and customer facilities' code of conduct and policies, inform the manager of work, site difficulties, and/or fluctuating volumes, and assist with additional work duties or responsibilities as evident or required. Consistent application of medical privacy regulations to guard against unauthorized disclosure is essential. The role also involves managing patient health records, safeguarding patient records to ensure compliance with HIPAA standards, preparing new patient charts by gathering documents and information from paper sources and/or electronic health records, ensuring medical records are assembled in standard order and are accurate and complete, creating digital images of paperwork to be stored in the electronic medical record, responding to requests for patient records both within the facility and by external sources, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately, answering inbound and outbound calls, assisting with patient walk-ins, handling faxes, opening mail, data entry, scheduling pick-ups, assisting with training associates in the Health Information Specialist I position, generating reports for the manager or facility as directed, exceeding level 1 productivity expectations as outlined at specific sites, participating in project teams and committees to advance operational strategies and initiatives as needed, acting in a lead role with staff regarding general questions, and assisting with new hire training and developmental training.

Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, being 18 years of age or older, the ability to travel locally or regionally 75% or more of the time, the ability to commute between locations as needed, the ability to work overtime during peak seasons when required, at least one year of health information-related experience, meeting and/or exceeding the company's productivity standards, basic computer proficiency, comfort utilizing phones, fax machines, printers, and other general office equipment on a regular basis, professional verbal and written communication skills in the English language, being detail and quality-oriented as it relates to accurate and compliant information for medical records, strong data entry skills, the ability to work with minimum supervision responding to changing priorities and role needs, the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks, and the ability to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications include previous production or metric-based work experience, in-person customer service experience, the ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers, and comfort bringing new ideas, process improvement suggestions, and feedback to internal stakeholders.
