Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment
The Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment NAM at SGS will oversee labor and employment legal functions across the United States and Canada. In this role, the Assistant General Counsel will provide legal advice on various labor and employment matters, including issues related to discrimination, sexual harassment, health and safety, hiring and termination, and other aspects of employee rights and responsibilities. Key responsibilities include counseling on U.S. federal and state employment laws such as FLSA, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, EPA, Title VII, OFCCP, and EEOC compliance, as well as Canadian federal and provincial laws like ESA, HRA, and AODA. The role also involves managing employment claims and litigation, analyzing legislation, preparing legal documents, reviewing company policies, and advising management to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.
Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to the New Jersey bar or eligible for a New Jersey in-house counsel license. A minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney is required, preferably with both private practice and in-house experience specializing in U.S. and Canadian labor and employment law. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, negotiation, and legal reasoning skills, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities. Proficiency in English at the highest level and the capacity to manage issues and workloads independently with minimal supervision are essential.
The expected salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000 CAD annually, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications. SGS offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 80% coverage for health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and eligibility for the RRSP program.
