Associate General Counsel, Commercial
BetterUp is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Commercial, to lead its commercial contracting function and build scalable systems that enhance deal pipeline visibility and contracting operations. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this role involves managing enterprise negotiations and modernizing contract templates to align with the company's evolving AI-powered products.
The successful candidate will manage the commercial legal team, set clear expectations, and develop decision frameworks to empower swift and consistent team actions. Responsibilities include leading negotiations for enterprise SaaS agreements, strategic partnerships, and high-value vendor contracts, as well as advising cross-functional teams on deal structures and risk mitigation. Additionally, the role involves implementing contract lifecycle management systems and developing templates and workflows to streamline the commercial lifecycle.
Candidates must possess a JD from an accredited law school and active Bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. A minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial and SaaS contracting, ideally within a scaling technology company, is required. Expertise in negotiating enterprise SaaS agreements, licensing deals, and complex commercial transactions is essential. Strong knowledge of privacy, data governance, AI-related provisions, and international data privacy laws is also necessary.
The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $325,000 to $360,000, along with equity and bonus opportunities.
