Associate General Counsel, Product - Development

IonQ, a leading quantum computing company, is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Product to join its legal team. This role is integral to building a dedicated product legal function that collaborates directly with product, research, engineering, and go-to-market teams from the earliest stages of development. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Product Legal and serve as a trusted legal partner to the teams building IonQ's products.

In this position, the Associate General Counsel will provide practical, business-calibrated legal guidance across the full product lifecycle, with a focus on regulatory compliance and strategic transactions. Responsibilities include leading regulatory compliance efforts for the manufacture, distribution, and sale of IonQ's products both domestically and internationally. The role also involves drafting, negotiating, and executing complex technology-driven transactions that advance IonQ's product strategy, such as strategic partnerships, licensing, joint development, and supply and manufacturing arrangements. Additionally, the Associate General Counsel will shape the playbooks, processes, and infrastructure of a new product legal function designed to scale with the business.

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department is required. Substantial experience advising on regulatory compliance for the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of technology products, both in the U.S. and abroad, is essential. A proven track record of drafting, negotiating, and executing complex technology transactions with direct impact on business or product strategy is also necessary. Demonstrated versatility to move between regulatory and transactional matters, and the ability to build skills outside core practice areas, are important. An appetite for addressing novel legal questions and the judgment to advise confidently amid ambiguity are key attributes. A desire to become a force-multiplier for the team, uncovering new opportunities for speed and efficiency—including leveraging existing AI tools and helping to build superior ones—is also valued.

The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $160,000 to $240,000, with additional benefits such as comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401(k), unlimited paid time off (PTO), paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend.
