The Associate General Counsel for R&D Innovation Legal (Specialty & Aesthetics) at AbbVie plays a pivotal role in guiding the company's research and development initiatives within the Specialty and Aesthetics therapeutic areas. In this capacity, the Associate General Counsel provides strategic counsel to senior R&D and corporate strategy leaders on legal and regulatory issues impacting pipeline development and product innovation. This includes assessing the effects of government pricing programs, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, on pipeline strategies. The role involves active participation in disease area strategy teams, focusing on long-term R&D and innovation strategies, with an emphasis on pipeline development and FDA considerations. Additionally, the position entails educating AbbVie legal departments and business stakeholders on emerging laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company's portfolio.

Candidates for this role should possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and be admitted to the bar in at least one U.S. state. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required, with a preference for 10+ years. Ideal candidates will have substantial expertise in FDA regulations related to innovator drug development, including clinical trial design, regulatory exclusivities, orphan drug designations, and combination products. Experience working with government health authorities is highly desirable, and familiarity with the Inflation Reduction Act's impact on drug development strategies is advantageous. Strong executive presentation skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams are essential.

The compensation for this role ranges from $177,000 to $336,000 annually, commensurate with experience. The position requires a hybrid work schedule, with a minimum of three days per week in the office at either Abbott Park in North Chicago, IL, or AbbVie's campus in Irvine, CA.
