The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking an Attorney I to join its Legal department. This role involves providing legal assessments, interpretations, and recommendations to internal clients regarding NYISO policies, federal and state statutes, court and regulatory agency orders, regulations, and contractual obligations. The Attorney I will work under the guidance of a Senior Attorney to support the organization's mission of operating a reliable electricity system and managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity.

Key responsibilities include drafting pleadings for filing with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the New York Public Service Commission (NYPSC), assisting with the preparation and review of legal documents and contracts, and representing the NYISO in regulatory proceedings and formal hearings. The Attorney I will also conduct legal research, provide advice to internal clients, and assist with negotiations of contracts and agreements.

The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials. A minimum of three years of significant related experience practicing before FERC or a state regulatory commission on energy matters is required. Experience at an ISO/RTO, public utility, energy marketing company, or a legal position at a state Public Service Commission is desirable. Recent law school graduates with exceptional academic credentials may also be considered. A license to practice law is required, with admission to the Bar in New York and the District of Columbia preferred.
