Audio Programmer
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the company behind the PlayStation brand, is seeking an Audio Programmer to join their audio tools and technology department. This role involves developing tools and designing technical systems for various PlayStation Studios interactive titles. The position is based in London, United Kingdom, and reports to the group's Technical Director.
The Audio Programmer will be responsible for designing audio tools for sound design and music teams, developing process tools to drive automated build systems, creating audio processing plugins for audio engines, and linking game systems to audio engines. Additional duties include connecting game system authoring tools to sound design tools, implementing complex new audio engine features, and collaborating with other audio programming team members to plan, document, and implement relevant audio systems. The role also involves supporting the sound design and music production team with tooling requests and game debugging, ensuring efficient and bug-free code development, debugging code to ensure it is release-ready, providing packaged releases of audio systems, overseeing the overall audio tech delivery on shipping game titles, and updating and maintaining audio middleware.
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of production experience and at least one shipped title on console or PC. A passion for audio and video games is essential. Strong experience in C++ and object-oriented or data-oriented design is required, along with experience in C#.NET and WPF. A solid understanding of 3D mathematics, acoustics, and digital signal processing is necessary. Proficiency with audio production software such as Pro Tools, Sound Forge, or Reaper, and experience with Visual Studio or other development environments are also required.
Desired qualifications include knowledge of streaming systems and multithreading, experience in VST development, familiarity with audio middleware like FMOD or Wwise, experience with graphical patching environments such as PD, MAX/MSP, or Reaktor, and experience with Unity 3D or Unreal development.
