Backend Engineer - International SG (Generative AI)
Canva is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Product Enablement team within the International Supergroup. This team focuses on expanding Canva's presence in new markets by developing systems that deliver localized experiences to users worldwide. The role is pivotal in integrating AI-powered features tailored for the Chinese market, ensuring a balance between product quality, technical scalability, and local relevance.
The Backend Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining reliable, scalable backend services that support Canva's generative AI experiences in China. Key duties include designing and implementing APIs, integrating backend systems with both global and local AI services, and collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver high-quality AI-driven features. Additionally, the role involves ensuring compliance with privacy and security standards across different markets and supporting experimentation to enhance the quality and impact of AI-powered experiences.
Candidates should have proficiency in Java and a solid understanding of backend development fundamentals, including REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven architecture. Experience in building and maintaining scalable backend services in production is essential. A strong focus on code quality, maintainability, and performance is required, along with a collaborative mindset and a growth-oriented attitude. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, or AI model integrations is advantageous. Interest or experience in generative AI, large language models (LLMs), or related domains is also beneficial. Fluency in English and comfort working in a global context are necessary.
