Backend Software Engineer - Product & Features (Java) - Open to remote across ANZ

Canva is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join our Product & Features team, focusing on developing scalable backend systems that power millions of user interactions. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely across Australia and New Zealand, aligning with our mission to empower the world to design.

In this position, you will design and implement backend features within our existing service architecture, build and maintain services that enhance user experiences and internal systems, and write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code. Collaboration with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers is essential to deliver high-quality solutions that have a real impact on our users.

The ideal candidate has experience building backend systems using Java in a production environment, possesses strong Java fundamentals, and is comfortable developing and consuming RESTful APIs. A solid understanding of distributed systems, sound engineering practices such as testing and documentation, and a collaborative mindset are also important. Hands-on experience using AI in coding and programming to drive greater impact is highly valued.
