Camera Engineer - Physical Products
As a Camera Engineer at Helsing, you will be instrumental in developing the visual perception systems for our next generation of autonomous drones. This role involves designing custom opto-electronic architectures that enable our AI to perceive the world with exceptional precision, even in challenging environments. You will collaborate closely with our AI and hardware teams to create robust, scalable solutions that enhance the situational awareness of Helsing's defense systems.
Your primary responsibilities will include defining the imaging architecture by selecting optimal combinations of lenses and sensors to align with AI requirements, implementing low-level logic such as FPGA programming to handle high-speed sensor interfaces, and ensuring precise synchronization between optical sensors and the platform's compute core. Additionally, you will oversee the transition of designs from prototype to production, define validation tests, and address challenges associated with complex opto-electronic assemblies.
We are seeking candidates with a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience. A proven track record in bringing complex opto-electronic systems from prototype to mass production is essential. Expertise in opto-mechanical design challenges, a deep understanding of imaging physics—including lens selection, CMOS sensor architecture, and noise sources—and proficiency in languages like C/C++ or Rust for low-level firmware development are required.
Helsing offers a competitive compensation package, including stock options, relocation support, social and education allowances, and regular company events to foster team cohesion.
