Chief Mission Systems Engineer - Space - DE
The Chief Mission Systems Engineer will serve as the technical authority for Helsing's reconnaissance satellite constellation, leading the design, integration, verification, and operation of the end-to-end mission architecture, including satellite, launch, ground, and operations segments. This role is pivotal in connecting business development, solution design, and system realization within the company.
Key responsibilities include holding overall technical responsibility for the mission system's design and execution, leading the development of the mission architecture, translating customer objectives into system requirements, defining technical interfaces between mission components, conducting system analyses and simulations, maintaining the Mission Concept of Operations, collaborating with project managers to ensure timely delivery, leading technical reviews, overseeing test plans for system validation, mentoring junior engineers, and preparing technical documentation.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in space systems engineering, with high-level knowledge of satellite bus and payload subsystems. They should demonstrate experience across multiple mission segments, including ground systems, launch services, and satellite operations, and have a proven track record in technical leadership roles guiding multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are essential, along with proficiency in systems engineering principles, system-of-systems integration, and end-to-end testing. Familiarity with industry standards such as ECSS and experience with requirements management tools are also required. Candidates must be eligible for and willing to undergo the clearance process for a German “Ü2” Personal Security Clearance.
