Corporate Counsel

The Corporate Counsel role is a cross-functional advisory position that involves close collaboration with various business units, including sales, marketing, product, engineering, finance, and people & culture. This role is integral to balancing legal risk with strategic business objectives, supporting Sonder's mission to scale globally.
Key responsibilities include negotiating revenue-generating agreements, drafting and reviewing contracts to support new company initiatives, and advising on data privacy laws and regulations, particularly the Privacy Act and GDPR. The Corporate Counsel will also support strategic projects, including advisory work for Sonder’s Board of Directors and collaboration with large strategic partners on product development. Establishing scalable processes, templates, and policies to support a high-growth environment, as well as procuring and utilizing technology-based solutions to automate repeatable processes, are also essential aspects of the role.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of post-qualification experience with top-tier private practice experience. Prior experience at a startup or scale-up technology company is desirable. A strong understanding of corporate and commercial law, with experience drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts, is essential. In-depth knowledge of Australian and European data privacy laws and regulations, including the Privacy Act and GDPR, would be advantageous.
