Counsel, Corporate & Finance
Major League Baseball (MLB) is seeking an experienced Counsel specializing in corporate governance, corporate finance, and mergers & acquisitions to join its legal team in New York City. This role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic environment, contributing to the legal framework that supports the operations of both Major and Minor League Baseball.
The Counsel will be responsible for negotiating and drafting contracts, providing general corporate legal advice, and ensuring compliance with MLB policies and rules. Key duties include reviewing agreements related to club sales, leases, loans, sports betting, and concessions, as well as assisting with corporate governance matters. The role also involves advising MLB personnel and clubs on the interpretation and applicability of baseball rules and relevant laws.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's and J.D. degree with an excellent academic record and be a member of the New York State Bar. A minimum of 2-4 years of experience in corporate law is required, with a strong preference for backgrounds in investment funds, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Essential skills include strong drafting, negotiation, creative thinking, leadership, and judgment abilities, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment is crucial. While experience in the baseball industry is not mandatory, a knowledge of the sport is considered a plus.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $180,000 to $200,000, contingent upon the candidate's experience, education, and skills.
