Database Engineer (Search Platform)
AlertMedia is seeking an experienced Database Engineer to join our Search Platform team, focusing on designing, operating, and evolving the data stores and search infrastructure that power our real-time risk intelligence platform. This role is pivotal in indexing, querying, ranking, and retrieving signals across large-scale structured and unstructured datasets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Elasticsearch, relational databases, and modern search architectures.
Key responsibilities include designing, scaling, and operating Elasticsearch clusters to support large-scale ingest and low-latency query workloads. The engineer will architect and optimize hybrid search systems, combining keyword search with vector/semantic retrieval, and implement ranking strategies such as Reciprocal Rank Fusion (RRF). Additionally, the role involves improving indexing strategies, shard design, mappings, analyzers, and query performance, as well as designing and maintaining relational database systems supporting application and data workloads.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with 3-4+ years of experience in database engineering, search engineering, or backend data platform roles. Expertise in Elasticsearch at scale, experience with AWS or other cloud platforms, and solid experience with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL are required. Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, are also essential.
