The Deputy General Counsel will play a pivotal role in establishing and leading the Legal Department, ensuring the provision of efficient and effective legal services, and managing legal compliance to minimize risk exposure.

In this role, the Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for developing the company's legal functions, including contract drafting and management, legal entity management, employment matters, and compliance with laws and contracts. The position involves creating processes and policies to build a high-functioning legal department, hiring and supervising outside counsel across various subject areas and jurisdictions, and representing the company in negotiations within Zambia and Southern Africa. Additionally, the Deputy General Counsel will review, draft, and advise on complex transactions spanning multiple jurisdictions, lead due diligence efforts, provide immediate legal and business advice to internal clients, and guide the company's global business operations using legal and business skills. The role also includes working across the company to set and meet high standards of ethics, focusing on safety, anti-corruption, community support, environmental protection, anti-discrimination, and integrity.

Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in a legal role within corporate organizations or private practice, with experience providing legal services to leading corporations in Zambia, such as top banks or mining companies. Experience in leading teams of attorneys and staff is essential. A law degree from a recognized university is required, with a Master's degree being an added advantage. Candidates must be members of the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) with a valid current practicing certificate. A demonstrated understanding of Corporate Law, Mining Law, Employment Law, and other relevant legislation pertaining to business operations is necessary. Excellent interpersonal relations, communication skills, and high integrity and ethical practice are essential. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent presentation skills, are also required.

This is a full-time position based at KoBold Metals Zambia's corporate headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia. Consideration will also be given to candidates located in the Copperbelt region or those seeking remote roles. At this time, the company is only accepting applications from Zambian nationals.
