Director, International Legal (Remote in the United Kingdom)
The Director, International Legal at KnowBe4 is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing all legal matters within the company's international operations, with a primary focus on the United Kingdom and Ireland. This position collaborates closely with the VP, Head of International Legal, internal counsels, and external legal advisors to provide comprehensive legal guidance on cybersecurity, data privacy, labor and employment laws, corporate regulations, and compliance issues. The role also involves assisting with various commercial contracts and transactions that impact the organization's international activities.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating a wide range of contract documents such as master services agreements, data protection agreements, statements of work, purchase orders, license agreements, reseller agreements, NDAs, and RFPs, primarily in English and preferably in a second European language, with a strong emphasis on technology contracts. The director will manage and resolve general legal matters affecting the company's international operations, research legal issues, and prepare memorandums to explain potential risks or liabilities. Providing advice and interpretation of contract requirements, obligations, and risk exposure to management is essential, along with ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines and summarizing risks for management review and approval. The role also supports global expansion efforts, including the integration of Egress or future M&A transactions, investor relations, and stock purchases.
Candidates should possess a doctorate or master's degree in law (or equivalent), with a minimum of seven years of experience practicing law in areas relevant to the position. They should have at least seven years of experience drafting and reviewing legal documents in English and preferably in a second European language, as well as experience with UK Public Procurement laws. A strong background in negotiating commercial contracts, including technology contracts, and data privacy, particularly GDPR, is required. Experience working in-house, knowledge in data privacy and cybersecurity, and familiarity with compliance programs are also essential. The candidate must be a licensed attorney, barrister, or solicitor (previously held or current), with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and preferably in a second European language. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, are crucial. The role demands strong negotiating skills, excellent time management and organizational abilities, and the capacity to establish and maintain strong relationships between the organization’s business units and affiliate entities. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively, handle high volumes of work under pressure, and work effectively with remote teams.
