Director of Legal, Product Foundations
Vercel is seeking a Director of Legal, Product Foundations to establish the legal frameworks that support our rapid product development. This role focuses on leading privacy and regulatory matters within the legal team, as well as overseeing intellectual property and litigation. Reporting to the VP of Legal, the Director will collaborate closely with Security, Trust & Safety, Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), and various product and engineering teams. The position is based in San Francisco, with a requirement to be in the office three days per week.
In this role, you will lead Vercel's privacy program, develop regulatory strategies and frameworks, manage intellectual property, oversee litigation, and guide the legal team's incident response processes. You will translate complex legal requirements into actionable, business-oriented guidance, enabling product teams to maintain their rapid development pace. Additionally, you will build scalable programs using policies, playbooks, templates, training, and AI tools to enhance efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have at least 12 years of legal experience, including significant in-house product counseling, privacy, and regulatory experience at a high-growth technology company serving enterprise customers. A strong understanding of AI, cloud services, and general B2B SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS business practices, along with relevant global regulatory requirements, is essential. Exceptional judgment and creativity in risk assessment and mitigation, deep technical literacy, and the ability to map technical architectures and data flows into legal risk frameworks are crucial. Strong communication and advocacy skills, particularly with non-lawyers, and experience managing legal teams and building strategic programs are also required.
Compensation for this role includes a competitive salary ranging from $310,000 to $340,000 per year, based on experience and location. The total compensation package may also include equity-based compensation, benefits, and eligibility for a company bonus or variable pay program.
