Embedded Software Engineer (Contractor)
Peak Energy is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team in Burlingame, California. This contractor role focuses on developing firmware for our gigawatt-scale sodium-ion energy storage systems, contributing to the advancement of renewable energy solutions.
In this position, you will design and implement real-time, C++-based firmware targeting microcontrollers within an RTOS environment. Your responsibilities include creating firmware for embedded prototypes to validate hardware design choices, ensuring functional safety requirements are met, and supporting the integration and verification of your code. Additionally, you will assist in defining system requirements and support deployed products in the field.
The ideal candidate has shipped at least one commercial or industrial hardware product and holds a degree in science, engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional engineering experience is required, with expertise in writing firmware for real-time embedded systems. Proficiency in using Linux as a development environment, configuring build tools like CMake or Make, and familiarity with version control systems such as Git are essential. Strong debugging skills and experience with hardware testing equipment are also important.
This contractor position offers an hourly rate between $150 and $200, with actual compensation varying based on experience and skills.
