Engineering Manager (infra) - Core Data (ANZ Remote)
Canva is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and coach a team of software engineers focused on building and evolving the company's core data and storage platforms. This role involves designing, implementing, and continuously improving database and storage infrastructure with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, security, compliance, and cost efficiency. The position offers flexibility to work from the office, home, or a mix of both, with the flagship campus located in Sydney and additional spaces in Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
Key responsibilities include analyzing fleet-wide performance and efficiency across Canva’s storage systems, using data-driven insights to enhance reliability and reduce operational overhead. The role also involves driving the evolution of Canva’s persistent storage towards a storage-as-a-service model, shaping architecture, tooling, and developer experience. Collaboration with product, platform, and infrastructure teams is essential to translate complex needs into robust, sustainable engineering solutions, balancing long-term strategy with pragmatic delivery to ensure high-impact outcomes at scale.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in software engineering within large-scale, production environments and deep expertise with modern data storage and data platform technologies. Proficiency in languages such as Golang, Python, Java, or similar is required, along with hands-on experience with Kubernetes (preferred), cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred), GCP, or Azure, and large-scale build or tooling systems. A strong understanding of security, privacy, and compliance requirements for data storage systems is essential. The candidate should be comfortable operating at the intersection of technical depth and people leadership, enjoy coaching engineers, and collaborate well with both technical partners and senior non-technical stakeholders.
