Engineering Manager

Thinking Machines Lab is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team of senior and staff-level engineers specializing in machine learning infrastructure and product development. In this role, the Engineering Manager will oversee the architecture, system design, and long-term technical direction of the team's systems, emphasizing reliability and performance. Responsibilities include leading and expanding the engineering team, setting clear expectations, and maintaining high execution standards. The manager will also collaborate with researchers and product teams to define roadmaps and prioritize work, as well as contribute directly to design reviews, prototyping, and resolving critical issues.

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or a related field, along with over eight years of experience in building and scaling production systems, including system design and distributed systems. A minimum of three years in engineering management within high-growth environments is required. Preferred qualifications include experience managing teams of senior or staff-level engineers, a background in infrastructure or systems engineering, familiarity with AI/ML systems, and a track record of contributing to widely used systems or tools.

The position is based in San Francisco, California, with an expected annual salary range of $400,000 to $500,000, depending on background, skills, and experience.
