As a Flight Control Systems Engineer at Helsing, you will lead the development and delivery of a fly-by-wire flight control system, collaborating closely with industry partners. This role involves defining the system architecture and overseeing its progression through all development stages to integration on the flying platform. You will work within a diverse, high-caliber team of experts, strategists, and partners to achieve this goal.

Key responsibilities include leading the technical development of system architectures and defining requirements for flight control, vehicle management, and flight management functions in collaboration with internal teams and partners. You will plan and execute the systems engineering lifecycle, from requirements development to qualification, prepare technical deliverables and documentation, create certification and compliance documentation to ensure adherence to aviation and regulatory standards, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders. Regular reporting on project status and technical changes to Chief Engineering and Programme Management is also expected.

The ideal candidate holds a relevant degree such as a Bachelor's or Master's in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience in leading the design and development of flight control hardware and software for airborne platforms, including tasks related to systems engineering, safety, aircraft certification, and avionics integration, is essential. A deep knowledge of avionics hardware and software development, with experience in applying system-level (ARP4754 and ARP4761) and software/hardware-level (DO-178C and DO-254) standards to safety-critical systems, is required. Established relationships with civil or military aviation authorities and excellent communication skills for clear and effective reporting to stakeholders are also necessary.

Helsing offers a focus on outcomes rather than time-tracking, competitive compensation and stock options, relocation support, social and education allowances, and regular company events and all-hands meetings to unite employees across Europe. A hands-on onboarding program, known as "Infraduction," provides an opportunity to build tooling and applications used company-wide, learn the tech stack, and understand company operations from day one.

Joining Helsing means contributing directly to the protection of democratic countries while balancing ethical and geopolitical concerns. The work is unique, operating in a domain with unusual technical requirements and constraints where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world. Helsing encourages healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about its work and methods, trusting teams and individual engineers to practice responsible autonomy and critical thinking, focusing on outcomes rather than conformity.
