Helsing is seeking a Flight Dynamics Modelling Engineer to join our team in Munich. As a defence AI company, we develop AI-based capabilities that enable machines to perceive and assist human decision-making. A critical aspect of our work involves accurately describing flight system dynamics to rapidly develop and evaluate control and AI-based capabilities.

In this role, you will be responsible for building and validating models for system dynamics from first principles, utilizing numerical predictions and test data. Your day-to-day tasks will include developing flight dynamics models for various aerial platforms, defining and executing numerical and experimental campaigns, and validating models through flight tests. Collaboration with interfacing disciplines such as Control, Aerodynamics, and Testing will be essential, as well as analyzing flight test data to refine models accordingly.

The ideal candidate holds a M.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent degree, with at least 5 years of professional experience in flight dynamics modelling. Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink is required, along with a solid background in aerodynamics, stability and control, and systems modelling. Strong software engineering skills, including writing clean and well-structured code in Matlab and/or languages like Python, Rust, Java, or modern C++, are essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to present findings clearly and efficiently both internally and externally are also important.

We offer competitive compensation and stock options, relocation support, social and education allowances, and regular company events to foster team cohesion across Europe. Our hands-on onboarding program, known as "Infraduction," provides an opportunity to learn our tech stack, explore the company, and collaborate with other engineering teams from day one.

At Helsing, you'll work with world-leading experts in their fields, directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing ethical and geopolitical concerns. Our unique domain presents highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, offering unique engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world. We encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about our work and how we choose to do it, fostering a culture of responsible autonomy and critical thinking.
