Formation Process Engineer - 3C Battery
Factorial Energy, a pioneering U.S.-based solid-state battery company, is seeking a Formation Process Engineer to join their team in Cheonan, South Korea. The company is at the forefront of developing next-generation e-mobility platforms for commercial, defense, and consumer applications, including electric vehicles, drones, and more. This role focuses on the development, optimization, and mass-production support of formation and grading processes for their Silicon Power Cell line.
The Formation Process Engineer will lead the development and optimization of formation protocols for silicon-based power cells, including pre-formation, standard formation, and step-charge strategies tailored to silicon anode expansion behavior. Responsibilities include designing and validating formation recipes to maximize initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE), solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) film uniformity, and suppressing lithium plating risks on high-silicon anodes. The role also involves establishing capacity grading specifications, developing product-specific formation programs optimized for high-rate power cell requirements, and collaborating with R&D and electrode teams to correlate formation conditions with silicon anode performance.
Candidates should have over three years of hands-on experience in lithium-ion battery formation and grading processes, with a preference for experience with silicon anode or high-energy-density cell formation. A deep understanding of formation fundamentals, including SEI formation, gas evolution, lithium deposition suppression, and electrolyte decomposition, is essential. Proficiency in electrochemical testing, such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), direct current internal resistance (DCIR), and self-discharge, is required. Familiarity with major formation cycler platforms and data analysis tools like JMP, Minitab, Python, or Excel is also necessary. A Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a related field is preferred.
While specific compensation details are not provided, Factorial Energy offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities to work on cutting-edge technology in the energy storage and electrification sectors. Employees can expect to collaborate with global leaders in the industry and contribute to the advancement of solid-state battery technology.
