Forward Deployed Engineer, Air Defense (FDE)
Anduril Industries is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to join their Air Defense team in Costa Mesa, California. This role involves deploying and supporting advanced military air defense systems globally, working closely with engineering teams to enhance product performance. The FDE will be integral to the Deployment Operations group, ensuring the successful implementation and operation of Anduril's cutting-edge defense technologies.
The primary responsibilities include executing technical operations, conducting field maintenance, and providing customer support and training for military air defense projects. The FDE will address complex hardware, software, and networking issues in diverse environments, develop and implement operational and logistical plans, and ensure the high availability and performance of air defense systems. Additionally, the role involves maintaining support plans, assisting in event planning, performing incident response analyses, and keeping documentation up to date.
Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in problem-solving within unstructured environments involving hardware, software, and networking interfaces. The role requires the ability to climb towers to install and maintain sensor equipment, strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting critical infrastructure, and experience in preventative maintenance of tower structures. Applicants must meet health and medical requirements for deployments, be willing to travel to remote regions for up to two months at a time (up to 80% of the year), relocate to Costa Mesa if not already local, and be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret/Secret clearance.
Preferred qualifications include a B.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, or a related technical field. Certifications such as Network+ and Linux+ are advantageous, as is prior tower climbing experience with relevant certifications. Experience with fiber and RF systems, the ability to lift 50-70 lbs, operating specialized equipment, holding a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and prior military or overseas contracting experience are also beneficial.
