The General Counsel will oversee the organization's legal affairs, including nonprofit, tax, and philanthropic law, ensuring compliance with IRS regulations governing tax-exempt organizations and other applicable laws. They will advise on innovative structures to maximize mission impact, such as cross-border grantmaking and collaborative funding mechanisms. Additionally, the role involves managing the organization's multi-entity structure, including international entities, in close collaboration with finance and operations.

Ideal candidates should have extensive experience in nonprofit, tax, and philanthropic law, with a strong understanding of IRS 501(c)(3) compliance and foundation governance. Experience in managing complex legal structures and providing strategic legal counsel in a philanthropic or nonprofit setting is essential. The ability to navigate politically complex and rapidly evolving environments and to lead comprehensive risk assessments across various organizational functions is also required.
