Head of Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs
Manifold Bio is a biotechnology company specializing in AI-guided protein design and in vivo screening to develop tissue-targeted medicines. The company is seeking a Head of Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs to lead its IP strategy and establish an in-house legal function. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and collaborates closely with R&D, business development, and executive leadership to build a robust global IP portfolio that secures the company's platform technologies and therapeutic pipeline.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing a comprehensive IP strategy, overseeing patent prosecution, conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, and managing the company's IP estate. The role also involves building and leading the in-house legal function, developing standard contract templates, managing existing agreements, and negotiating contracts with external partners. Additionally, the Head of IP and Legal Affairs will establish best practices for company IP and provide education and counsel to the R&D organization and company management teams.
The ideal candidate should possess a JD and a PhD or other advanced degree in life sciences, biotechnology, or a related field, and be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A minimum of 10 years of IP experience, with significant time in biotech or biopharma, is required. Expertise in patent law, prosecution, and global IP landscape development is essential, along with a proven track record of building and managing IP portfolios that support business growth. Experience negotiating biotechnology agreements and IP-related clauses in collaboration and partnership agreements is also necessary.
Compensation for this role includes a base salary ranging from $260,000 to $370,000, depending on experience and role scope.
