Head of Systems Engineering - Physical Products
Helsing is seeking a Head of Systems Engineering for Physical Products to lead the design and implementation of complex mechatronic and software-defined systems. This role involves translating high-level operational concepts into robust physical and logical architectures, ensuring seamless integration of hardware and software components. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions that align with Helsing's mission to protect democracies through technological leadership.
Key responsibilities include developing and owning system architectures for multi-domain platforms such as drones and sensor pods, utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools to document system behaviors and interfaces. The role also involves active participation in the physical integration of mechatronic systems, leading trade-off analyses to determine effective architectural solutions, and conducting system-level testing to drive rapid design iterations. Collaboration with software architects, hardware developers, and AI engineers is essential to ensure technical consistency across all disciplines.
The ideal candidate will have over four years of hands-on experience in systems engineering or system architecture for complex mechatronic, defense, aerospace, or autonomous systems. Practical expertise in MBSE and SysML, along with a strong foundation in requirements management, is required. A builder's mindset is essential, with comfort working in lab environments, reading electrical schematics, navigating 3D CAD models, and using diagnostic tools. A university degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is necessary, along with business fluency in English and a willingness to travel.
