Hydraulics Project Engineer
Benesch is seeking a Hydraulics Project Engineer to lead hydraulic and stormwater management design for transportation and infrastructure projects. This role involves providing technical guidance on hydraulic design, storm drainage systems, and erosion control for linear transportation and infrastructure projects. The position is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and follows a hybrid work schedule.
Key responsibilities include leading and mentoring junior staff, overseeing hydrology and hydraulic analysis for transportation projects, reviewing and approving stormwater management system and pond designs, managing hydraulic culvert/bridge design and permitting processes, providing strategic direction on erosion and sediment pollution control designs, ensuring quality control and compliance with MassDOT standards and the FHWA Hydraulic Design Manual, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate hydraulics with overall civil/highway design, and assisting with client and stakeholder coordination to ensure projects meet technical and regulatory requirements.
Candidates should have a minimum of 8 years of experience in hydraulic design for transportation projects, a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, and a Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain a Massachusetts PE. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, and HEC-RAS is required, along with experience developing deliverables per MassDOT standards (BSR/CSR experience preferred). Knowledge of erosion and sediment pollution control (MassDOT Level III Certification a plus) and a strong understanding of the FHWA Hydraulic Design Manual are essential. Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment and excellent communication and leadership skills are also necessary.
The expected compensation range for this position is $84,000 to $130,000 USD annually.
