Stoke Space is a pioneering aerospace company dedicated to revolutionizing space transportation with its fully and rapidly reusable launch vehicle, Nova. The In-Space Propulsion Lead will be integral to a new organization within Stoke, focusing on developing products that extend beyond launch capabilities, including spacecraft and on-orbit mobility solutions. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of in-space propulsion systems within a mission-driven and collaborative team.

As the In-Space Propulsion Lead, you will define the propulsion architecture for the group's products, encompassing thrust, specific impulse, and mass trade-offs, as well as selecting appropriate propellants and propulsion classes. You will lead decisions regarding building, acquiring, or partnering for propulsion systems, conducting thorough technical and production diligence on suppliers and acquisition targets. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing the design, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and qualification of selected propulsion systems, managing propellant over the mission life, and establishing propulsion test capabilities from component to system-level hot fire. Additionally, you will provide propulsion inputs to mission design and vehicle architecture trades, lead root-cause investigations, and contribute to the growth of the propulsion team as the product matures.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or chemical engineering, physics, or a related field, with over 10 years of propulsion experience, including in-space propulsion flight hardware from design through qualification and flight. Hands-on experience with at least one class of in-space propulsion (chemical or electric) is required, along with a strong foundation in combustion, heat transfer, fluid flow, and propellant management systems. Experience leading a propulsion team or program, managing technical output, schedules, and budgets, is essential. Proficiency in test campaign ownership, from planning through hot fire and anomaly resolution, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are also necessary.

Stoke Space offers a comprehensive benefits package, including equity in the form of stock options, subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance, company-paid life and disability insurance, a 401(k) plan with employer match, and four weeks of paid time off. Additional benefits include 10 holidays per year, paid family/parental leave, an on-site gym or monthly wellness stipend (depending on location), and dog-friendly offices. Compensation is competitive, with target levels ranging from $151,305 to $393,435 annually, depending on experience and skill level.

Joining Stoke Space means becoming part of a mission-driven, collaborative team dedicated to advancing space transportation. The company fosters a culture of empowerment, encouraging team members to take ownership of their work and contribute to the growth and success of the organization. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside some of the most dedicated and talented individuals in the aerospace industry, contributing to the development of innovative propulsion systems that will shape the future of space exploration.
