The company specializes in providing a user-friendly platform for trading cryptocurrencies, stocks, precious metals, and commodities, catering to over 7 million customers across Europe. As Bitpanda continues to expand its innovative product offerings, the role of Lead Legal Counsel is pivotal in ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and maintaining user trust.
In this role, the Lead Legal Counsel will be responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously evolving Bitpanda's enterprise-level data protection management system (DPMS). This includes serving as the primary point of contact for data protection supervisory authorities across Europe, the UK, and the UAE, and leading responses to high-level inquiries and regulatory audits. The position also involves collaborating with the C-suite, engineering, and product divisions to provide pragmatic, solution-oriented privacy advice on complex initiatives, particularly those intersecting data privacy, blockchain technology, and AI. Additionally, the Lead Legal Counsel will oversee the Group's data protection control framework, monitor and test controls, drive remediation of identified gaps, and report on framework effectiveness to senior management.
Candidates should possess over seven years of experience in data protection, ideally with a mix of top-tier international law firms, regulatory authorities, and in-house legal or privacy departments, including experience as an appointed Data Protection Officer. A strong understanding of complex regulatory environments surrounding digital assets and regulated financial services is essential. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic problem solver, capable of delivering precise, reliable, and commercially viable legal advice while managing multiple competing priorities. Fluency in English is required, with a C1 or higher level of German being a must-have. Recognized privacy certifications, such as CIPP/E or CIPM, are highly advantageous.
