Lead Software Development Engineer
As a Lead Software Development Engineer at PitchBook, a Morningstar company, you will be an integral member of the Product and Engineering team, focusing on the Frontier Data Platform. This team is dedicated to enhancing PitchBook's customer-facing products by designing, building, and maintaining systems that efficiently ingest, correlate, enrich, and present vast amounts of data. In this position, you will lead a small, high-ownership engineering team, setting the technical direction and fostering a culture of excellence. Your responsibilities will include writing production-grade backend code, designing and implementing new platform capabilities such as ingestion pipelines and search indexing strategies, and ensuring the technical quality of the team's output through code reviews and architectural decisions. Collaboration with engineering managers, product teams, and other stakeholders will be essential to align on requirements and technical direction.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, with over seven years of backend software engineering experience, primarily in Java on production systems at scale. Expertise in distributed data pipelines and streaming systems, such as Kafka, is crucial. Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch or similar search technologies, along with a strong understanding of system design, performance optimization, and cloud technologies, is highly desirable.
