As the Lead Systems Engineer for Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) Sensing at Helsing, you will oversee the complete integration of airborne EO/IR targeting systems, guiding them from initial requirements through to flight testing and operational deployment. Helsing is a defense AI company dedicated to protecting democracies by achieving technological leadership, enabling open societies to maintain sovereign decisions and uphold ethical standards.

In this role, you will translate mission needs into specific performance requirements for detection, tracking, and identification, while defining the sensor's concept of operations and algorithm integration. Key responsibilities include managing technical supplier interfaces, leading verification and test campaigns, and ensuring seamless data integration with the core mission system to deliver a fully qualified capability.

Candidates should hold a relevant degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field. Experience in delivering EO/IR targeting systems through integration, testing, and operational release is essential. Proficiency in translating mission scenarios into detection, recognition, and identification requirements, as well as hands-on experience with sensor mode design and integration of detection, tracking, and classification pipelines, is highly desirable.

Helsing offers a focus on outcomes rather than time-tracking, competitive compensation and stock options, relocation support, social and education allowances, and regular company events to foster a cohesive team environment across Europe. The company encourages applications from individuals who may not meet all listed qualifications, emphasizing that ability and impact cannot be summarized in a few bullet points.

Joining Helsing means contributing directly to the protection of democratic countries while balancing ethical and geopolitical concerns. The work involves unique engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world, operating at the forefront of technical innovation in the defense industry. Helsing fosters an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defense, its benefits, and its ethical implications.
