BVNK is seeking a dynamic and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team in either Cape Town or Malta. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide strategic legal advice across various teams, including Product, Engineering, Compliance, Regulatory, Banking, Marketing, Finance, and HR. This role offers the opportunity to influence the development of innovative financial products and services in a rapidly evolving industry.

In this position, you will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, such as service contracts, outsourcing agreements, and SaaS agreements. You will assess and advise on legal risks, propose effective solutions, and ensure compliance with financial services regulations, data privacy laws, and intellectual property rights. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with the General Counsel to manage the legal function, support M&A activities, and develop scalable processes for new product launches.

The ideal candidate will have over three years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an in-house legal team, top law firm, or government agency. Familiarity with UK and/or EU payments and financial services laws and regulations is essential. Strong negotiation and drafting skills, particularly in payment services agreements, are required. Experience in corporate governance, employment matters, and litigation is advantageous but not mandatory. A proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented mindset is highly valued.
