LawZero is seeking a Legal Counsel to support its legal, governance, and compliance functions. This position reports directly to the General Counsel & VP, Legal & Corporate Affairs, and is based in Montreal. LawZero is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing research and creating technical solutions for safe-by-design AI systems.

The Legal Counsel will draft, review, and manage various legal agreements, including vendor and service provider contracts, partnerships, grants, IP and data licensing agreements, employment contracts, and confidentiality agreements. They will lead the implementation of scalable processes for contract operations and collaborate with research, product, and engineering teams to embed legal and responsible AI considerations into the development lifecycle. Additionally, the role involves supporting corporate governance functions, assisting with Board of Directors logistics, and preparing meeting agendas and minutes.

Candidates should have 2 to 5 years of legal practice experience, preferably in a technology or research environment. A pragmatic, solution-oriented approach and a willingness to engage in a variety of tasks are essential. Membership in good standing with the Barreau du Québec and fluency in both French and English are required.
