Betterment is seeking a Legal Counsel specializing in Litigation and Regulatory matters to join our dynamic legal team. This role is integral to ensuring our operations comply with legal standards and effectively managing litigation risks.

In this position, you will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business teams to navigate regulatory requirements and operational challenges. Key responsibilities include engaging with regulatory bodies such as FINRA and the SEC, assisting in the development of new business lines and products by drafting customer agreements and disclosures, and proactively resolving potential disputes. Additionally, you will analyze evolving rules and regulations impacting the financial services industry and negotiate complex commercial agreements.

The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, admission to a state bar, and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm. An adaptable mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects independently are essential. Excellent writing abilities and a passion for Betterment's mission are also highly valued.

Betterment offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $150,000 to $165,000, equity options, health, dental, and vision benefits, life and disability insurance, and a 401(k) plan with employer match.
