Legal Counsel
Proton is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its dynamic legal team in Geneva. As a company founded by CERN scientists in 2014, Proton is dedicated to providing privacy-focused services, including Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar, serving millions globally. The legal team plays a crucial role in navigating complex regulatory landscapes and supporting the company's mission to uphold user privacy.
In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing legal reviews for product launches across Proton's suite of services, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Your day-to-day tasks will include drafting, negotiating, and finalizing SaaS, vendor, and partnership agreements with minimal reliance on external counsel. Additionally, you will advise on GDPR compliance, manage user data requests, and handle regulatory inquiries and government data requests in alignment with Proton's privacy commitments.
The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house role, with significant exposure to technology, SaaS, or digital platforms. A solid working knowledge of GDPR and EU data protection laws, applied in practice, is essential. Demonstrated ability to independently draft and negotiate commercial technology contracts is required. Strong business judgment, providing clear and actionable advice, and fluency in English are necessary; proficiency in French, German, or Spanish is a plus.
