Crunchyroll is seeking a Director of Business & Legal Affairs to join its Legal team, focusing on content licensing, acquisition, and distribution deals for anime series, films, digital manga, and video games. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Head of Business & Legal Affairs, and collaborates closely with business leaders to expand Crunchyroll's global anime offerings.

The Director will be responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating a high volume of content licensing, theatrical, and rights acquisition agreements, as well as distribution and license agreements. They will advise on copyright, trademark, chain of title, and other intellectual property issues, providing practical counsel and creative solutions to teams in the U.S. and Japan. Additionally, the role involves navigating anime-specific content agreements, theatrical rights, co-production partnerships, and distribution models, while collaborating with content, distribution, marketing, finance, and product teams to advance key initiatives.

Candidates should have over 10 years of experience in commercial contracts, content acquisition and distribution, intellectual property, and media or entertainment law. A Juris Doctor degree and active membership in good standing with at least one state bar (California or New York required, or eligibility to register as In-House Counsel in California) are necessary. Experience in-house or at a top-tier law firm supporting major media, streaming, or entertainment companies is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in negotiating complex commercial agreements, intellectual property rights, and have a practical understanding of the evolving global media landscape.

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $190,000 to $230,000 annually, with additional performance bonus potential.
