Linux Cryptography and Security Engineer
Canonical is seeking a Linux Cryptography and Security Engineer to enhance the security foundation of Ubuntu, ensuring compliance with international standards such as FIPS 140-3 and Common Criteria. This role involves collaborating with the Security Hardening team to develop automation tools for auditing system compliance and working with organizations like DISA and CIS to implement security benchmarks.
Key responsibilities include extending and enhancing Linux cryptographic components such as OpenSSL, Libgcrypt, and GnuTLS to meet certification requirements. The engineer will collaborate with external security consultants to test and validate kernel and cryptographic modules, develop security hardening benchmarks, and contribute to Ubuntu and upstream projects to improve the overall security posture.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with low-level Linux cryptography APIs and debugging, strong software engineering fundamentals with proficiency in C development, and experience in Linux system administration and shell scripting. A solid understanding of security and cryptography principles, along with experience in writing secure code and working with open-source libraries, is essential. Excellent communication skills are required to collaborate effectively in a remote-first environment.
