The Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Pennsylvania is seeking a Litigation Support Paralegal to join its Pittsburgh office. This role provides comprehensive support to attorneys handling federal cases, including pre-indictment matters, trials, appeals, and habeas proceedings. The position primarily supports the Trial Unit and the Appeals/Non-Capital Habeas Unit, contributing to the organization's mission of delivering high-quality legal representation to individuals unable to afford counsel.

Key responsibilities include assisting attorneys in case preparation for trials, sentencing, and evidentiary hearings. The paralegal will identify and utilize appropriate technologies for reviewing and analyzing discovery materials, organize complex discovery, and produce reports summarizing evidence for the defense team or courtroom presentations. Additional duties involve creating and maintaining indices, chronologies, witness lists, and preparing documents for expert review.

Candidates must possess a strong legal, administrative, or paralegal background, with excellent organizational and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal research tools such as Westlaw and Lexis is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, with at least three years of general work experience and three years of specialized experience. Additional education or paralegal certification is preferred but not required.

The position offers a salary range of $77,211 to $169,060, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
