Machine Learning Engineer, 3D Object Detection (PhD New Grad)
Waymo is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer specializing in 3D Object Detection to join their Perception team. This team is responsible for developing systems that interpret the spatial and temporal aspects of the environment surrounding autonomous vehicles. The role is based in Mountain View and San Francisco, California, and offers a hybrid work model reporting to a Technical Lead Manager.
In this position, the engineer will own tasks within the Machine Learning Driver, focusing on scaling and performance optimization. Responsibilities include creating methods to enhance task efficiency, analyzing real-world behavior of machine learning systems to identify and resolve issues, and developing tools for monitoring and debugging production systems. Additionally, the role involves maintaining metrics for safety-critical and long-tail issues relevant to autonomous driving.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with at least three years of experience in Machine Learning and Computer Vision. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or JAX are required. Preferred qualifications include a Master's or PhD in a relevant discipline, publications in top-tier conferences, and experience with C++.
The expected base salary for this full-time position ranges from $170,000 to $216,000 annually, depending on factors such as location, experience, and education. Employees are also eligible for Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and a comprehensive benefits package.
