As a Maritime Field Engineer at Helsing, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our military AI products from initial concepts to full-scale deployment. Collaborating closely with software and AI engineers, product managers, and end users, you will ensure our integrated software and hardware systems are rigorously tested and refined for operational readiness. Your contributions will be instrumental in demonstrating the safety and reliability of our products, directly supporting our mission to protect democratic societies.

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include conducting comprehensive testing of combined software and hardware products both in laboratory settings and real-world maritime environments. You will be responsible for preparing, transporting, and setting up equipment at various test locations, including ports and offshore sites, and executing tests at sea. Additionally, you will install AI software onto edge computing devices using Helsing's proprietary deployment tools, perform field repairs and maintenance on marine mechanical and electrical systems, and contribute to the design and improvement of test plans and safety procedures. Your role will also involve defining resource requirements for efficient field testing operations and advising on training course design and in-service support procedures. Travel to testing locations across the UK, France, Germany, and beyond will be required.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand complex hardware and software systems at a holistic level. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as you will be expected to produce clear documentation and effectively convey technical concepts to both engineering and non-engineering audiences. A proactive problem-solving mindset is crucial, with the capacity to independently manage critical workstreams, identify issues, and implement solutions. A commitment to protecting liberal democratic values through contributions to the defense and security sector is fundamental. Comfort with working at sea for periods of up to two weeks is also necessary.

Helsing offers a competitive compensation package, including stock options, relocation support, and allowances for social and educational activities. Employees benefit from regular company events and a comprehensive onboarding program designed to familiarize new team members with our technology stack and operational procedures. Our focus on outcomes over time-tracking ensures a flexible and results-oriented work environment.

Joining Helsing means becoming part of a team dedicated to leveraging cutting-edge technology to safeguard democratic nations. Our work is characterized by unique technical challenges that require innovative solutions, offering employees the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the world. We foster a culture of open and diverse debate, encouraging responsible autonomy and critical thinking. At Helsing, you will have the opportunity to influence how we work, engage in discussions about our practices, and take ownership of aspects of our culture that you are passionate about.
