Materials Scientist
As a Materials Scientist at Formlabs, you will be an integral part of our Materials Engineering team, focusing on the development of cutting-edge materials for 3D printing applications. Formlabs is a leader in the 3D printing industry, providing innovative solutions to over 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including companies like Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. Our mission is to empower professionals to design, prototype, and manufacture faster than ever before.
In this role, you will conduct research and develop world-class materials for 3D printing, from initial lab explorations to validation and commercialization. You will collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to ensure new and existing materials print seamlessly and reliably on our hardware. Designing and performing experiments to inform and develop material performance improvements will be a key aspect of your day-to-day work. Additionally, you will partner with product management, hardware, and software engineers to continuously improve our materials.
The ideal candidate is a creative and resourceful problem-solver who balances speed and scientific rigor in a dynamic environment. A solid understanding of the fundamentals of materials science and polymer development is essential. You should be passionate about testing and troubleshooting, not afraid to test hundreds of times, and adept at designing and conducting rigorous experiments to optimize materials. The ability to work autonomously, take initiative to learn new skills, and maintain good documentation practices is crucial. A B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a relevant science or engineering field is required.
