ML Accelerator Architect
Waymo is seeking an ML Accelerator Architect to join its Compute Team, responsible for developing the compute platform that powers the software stack of fully autonomous vehicles. This role involves architecting high-performance custom silicon and system-level compute architectures to enhance performance, power efficiency, and latency.
The ML Accelerator Architect will analyze workloads, map them efficiently to hardware, propose innovative hardware-friendly implementations, and project performance outcomes. Responsibilities include architecting, simulating, and designing machine learning solutions for autonomous driving technology, collaborating with compiler and model developers to influence engineering trade-offs and future model architectures, building scalable tools for simulator modeling and performance evaluation, and interacting with cross-functional engineering teams to identify opportunities and requirements.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing or architecting complex, high-performance architectures such as CPUs, GPUs, or ML accelerators, either in the industry or through doctoral research, is required. Additionally, at least 1 year of experience with machine learning architectures, acceleration, and model optimization, along with strong C++ programming and algorithmic problem-solving skills, are essential.
Preferred qualifications include over 1 year of experience modeling high-performance architectures in cycle-aware simulators, a track record of analyzing workloads and delivering novel hardware and software solutions to significantly improve performance and efficiency, familiarity with ML model architectures and their compute characteristics, and experience with microarchitecture design using SystemVerilog or High-Level Synthesis (HLS).
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across U.S. locations is $170,000 to $216,000. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in the company's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
