ML Engineer, Foundation Model Infrastructure

Waymo is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join its AI Foundations team, focusing on developing infrastructure for foundation models that enhance the capabilities of the Waymo Driver. This role involves building and operating large-scale data systems and machine learning pipelines essential for advancing autonomous driving technologies.

Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining petabyte-scale data systems and ML pipelines, transitioning foundation models from research prototypes to robust components within the Waymo Driver, and creating automated infrastructure for benchmarking, monitoring, and releasing models. The engineer will also utilize large-scale compute frameworks to process extensive datasets and train complex models, aiming to improve the efficiency and reliability of the ML development lifecycle.

Candidates should possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related technical field, or have equivalent practical experience. Proficiency in Python and C++ is required, along with familiarity with modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow. Experience in building or maintaining large-scale data pipelines or ML infrastructure is also essential.

The position offers a competitive base salary ranging from $204,000 to $259,000 annually, with eligibility for Waymo's discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and a comprehensive benefits package. The role follows a hybrid work schedule, reporting to a Senior Research Scientist, and is based in Mountain View, California.
