Paralegal Manager
The Paralegal Manager at Democracy Forward will oversee and support a team of senior paralegals, paralegals, and legal assistants, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Legal Team. This role is integral to maintaining high standards in legal filings and providing comprehensive support to litigators. The position is based in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid work model requiring regular in-office presence.
Key responsibilities include supervising a team of 7-12 senior paralegals and paralegals, as well as 6-8 legal assistants. The Paralegal Manager will assign and monitor the progress of the legal support team’s work, ensuring that legal filings in federal and state courts are error-free and timely. Additionally, the role involves identifying skill gaps, providing training, onboarding new staff, and offering backup paralegal support to litigation when necessary.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a legal, government, or nonprofit setting, with at least 15 years in the legal and legal support field and a minimum of 5 years in people management. A collaborative leadership style, the ability to develop trust across teams, and experience in managing paralegals and legal support professionals are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PACER, ECF, and Westlaw is required.
