WHOOP is seeking a Patent Counsel to develop and manage an intellectual property program that supports innovation across hardware, software, data science, and health technology. This role involves close collaboration with research and development teams to identify and protect patentable inventions, ensuring the company's technological advancements are effectively safeguarded. The position is based in Boston, MA, and requires on-site presence.

The Patent Counsel will work directly with engineers, scientists, and product leaders to identify potentially patentable innovations and develop detailed invention disclosures for submission to outside patent prosecution counsel. Responsibilities include conducting third-party patent portfolio analyses, freedom-to-operate reviews, and risk assessments, as well as supporting litigation matters through claims analysis. Additionally, the role involves managing the company's trademark portfolio, coordinating filings, renewals, and enforcement matters, and developing internal IP policies and training programs.

Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, active membership in at least one U.S. state bar, and registration as a patent attorney with the USPTO. A minimum of six years of experience in patent law and intellectual property counseling, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house experience, is required. A technical background in electrical engineering, signal processing, or optics is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience working directly with technical teams to evaluate inventions and translate concepts into strong patent disclosures, as well as familiarity with patent landscape analysis and trademark portfolio management.
