EducationCounsel, LLC, in affiliation with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, is seeking a Policy Assistant to join their Washington, DC office. The Policy Assistant will conduct policy and legal research and analysis on early childhood, K-12, and postsecondary education issues, including tracking legislation, analyzing statutory text, monitoring grant notices, and reviewing agency guidance. Responsibilities include drafting, proofreading, and editing policy and strategy documents such as briefing memos, issue briefs, and policy recommendations for external audiences. The role also involves managing project progress and timelines, designing engaging presentations and materials, assisting with strategic planning and execution of meetings and convenings, attending congressional hearings and events, and managing external communications with clients and partners.

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with an advanced degree in public policy, education, or a related field preferred but not required. A minimum of 2-3 years of direct, relevant work experience in education policy or government relations is expected. The ideal candidate will have project management experience, exposure to federal and/or state policymaking, a demonstrated track record in education policy, and a commitment to racial equity and justice. Strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills with attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
